Amazon is planning to invest $5 billion on a new second headquarters in the U.S., and the New York Times says Miami ranks as one of the top contenders.
The company will create 50,000 high paying jobs over the next two decades, and cities around the country are now putting together bid packages for the Amazon RFP.
Of 50 metro areas analyzed by the New York Times, Miami ranks in the final 9. The reason: Miami has strong job growth, a growing educated work force, and quality of life that is desired by Amazon.
The one reason Miami does not make the top 4 is traffic congestion and weak transit.
Despite all of the criteria listed above, most important of all to Amazon is finding a suitable development site or building for a “transformational” project.
Miami Innovation District principal Michael Simkins told The Next Miami that his company was evaluating the RFP and should have more information soon.
