Fort Lauderdale approves FATCity

Fort Lauderdale commissioners provided unanimous approval to FATCity, one of the more uniquely named projects to pop up in South Florida.

FATCity (Flager Arts and Technology City) will reside in FATVillage, encompassing 1.35 million square feet of retail, office, hospitality and residential space. The developer is Traina Cos and the architect is Adache Group Architects.

The project, which would be close to Brightline’s Fort Lauderdale station, entails two 30-story towers that would include 612 apartments; 270,000 square feet of office, hospitality and retail space; and over 1,300 parking spaces. The design includes an atrium and walls decorated by local artists.

Groundbreaking is expected in late 2018 or early 2019.
